Water holds Memory (WT)

This is a collabortation between
Madhumita Nandi
and myself.

Starting from Madhu’s experiences as migrant, we explore water as our shared holder of memory. The connection of drained swamp lands in Kolkata and Berlin leads us to power structures in and around water, and how we relate to it.

This is a work in progress, where we collect memories aroudn water and build an interactive water pump piece to explore the watery archive playfully.

Sound memory

Sound memory is the idea of “what if I played a game on a midi-controller” come to life.

Using an old Launch Pad mini, I hacked together a memory game with animal sounds (hence, “sound memory”) during the Berlin Mini Game Jam in January 2026.

A convenient part about the Launch Pad is that its grid-like interface makes for an ideal playing field. Plus, with the tactile buttons, touching it is a lot of fun! It only has three colors per button (technically 4, but yellow and amber are hard to tell apart…) that makes for nice contrains in the design of the lighting.

Queering the Default Body

I was briefly employed by the University of Bonn to work on a small artistic research project within the interdisciplinary project
InVirtuo4.0
. InVirtuo is all about avatars, virtual representation of the self and new possibilies in VR and the metaverse for therapy and other neuro-sciencey things.

Part of the fun are two full body photogrammetry scanners in Dortmund and Bonn, which I got to scan myself in! For science! The Dortmund one even features a fully automated pipeline from scanner to fully rigged avatar in only a couple of minutes. Very cool!

Together with STERNA | PAU I developed a web-based audiowalk with AR elements.

Around the topic of time, the audience is invited to wander around Dortmund’s Ostpark.

It’s live here
https://vonanderenzeiten.sternapau.de/
but you need to be inside the park to access the content ;)

You can find the code here
https://github.com/lislis/ostpark-walk

More at
https://www.sternapau.de/projekte/die-zeit-ist-rund-at/

I think about porn sometimes

In this project I explored the practice of
machinima
: creating film with content obtained through game play or game engines.

I specifically wanted to look at modding (writing custom content for (mostly) commercial games) and explicitly sexual or pornografic content.

The game of choice here is the open world, action-role-playing game
Skyrim
, because of its very widespread and active porn-modding scene that even allowed for some pretty queer sex.

Overall, the idea is that I walk around Skyrim as both a male and female character and use a sex mod to have sex with lots of NPCs while contemplating the hypocrisy of porn as both shunned and also sought-after content in various forms of media.

The third and last part of the “21st century hauntings” trilogy, cryptolike, compares astrology and cryptocurrencies. Don’t we all just want to be part of something bigger? A system that you can’t quite explain, but you can trust. Or is it all make-believe?

The performers meet at MoonCon: one a crypto-bro, the other an astrology-girly. Will they find to each other through their similarities? Or are they just too different?

EpiphBytes

EpiphBytes is an interactive installation contemplating our relationship with nature and our impact on ecosystems.

The server rack-looking structure houses several live plants, their LED-roots hanging like liana, glowing green-ish. The plants are thriving, collecting nutrients (pink LEDs) and delivering them to the plants.

If people approach, the roots tint towards blue. We know plants are aware of their surroundings and humans nearby.

If people touch the plants the roots star to wither, turning yellow-orange. Is the touch released the plant will recover after a short while.

The second part of the “21st century hauntings” trilogy, trolllike, looks at the mythical figure of the troll and its new incarnation, the internet troll.

The performers are on a journey through Norway, home of the trolls, when they meet the internet trolls. At first it’s funny but quickly spirals into serious political issues from there, until Ragnarök, the apocalypse, hits.

Technically, it’s a website visualizing an archive STERNA | PAU and I created for this piece. The frondend uses
a-frame
to put the contents into a low-poly, 3D environment, that young audiences responded well to.

The first part of the “21st century hauntings” trilogy, ghostlike, explores the motive of the ghost and hauntings.

Through the trope of exploring a haunted mansion, the performers encounter ghosts that haunt their communities, confront people who have ghosted them and coming to terms with being the ghost outside of mainsteam society.

The entire performance is participatory: the audience receives flashligths upon entering and the stage is fitted with three boxes, marked with differently colored LEDs.

Who writes our stories? In katharis.lol STERNA | PAU and I developed a text-only theatrical experience online: to be a participant means to co-write a story with your fellow participants. You can talk to them “backstage” and perform “onstage”. Who is where and when is decided by an ex-machina bot that occasionally intervenes. “Backstage” is only accessible to your peer group, “onstage” is publicly visible to everyone. But all in text, and at the end a new story is born.
